    Bumsoo Han is selected as a Chan Zukerberg Biohub Investigator at CZ Biohub Chicago. We will study the neuroinflammation mechanisms using engineered tissue models. Specifically, we are investigating the effects of disrupted blood-brain interface and circadian rhythm in neuroinflammation through collaboration with Martha Gillette’s lab.     Andrew Mugler Seminar at UIUC

    Professor Andrew Mugler of Physics from the University of Pittsburg visited the lab. We have been collaborating with his lab to understand the biophysics of cancer cell chemotaxis. Our collaboration is extended to understand cellular sensing and information processing of chemical and flow cues.

    Altug Visits UIUC

    Professor Altug Ozcelikkale, our Alumnus, from the Middle Eastern Technical University at Turkiye visited our group. He completed his PhD study in the group in 2015 and performed his Postdoc research until 2017. He is currently directing the Engineered Biomicrosystems Laboratory to develop engineered biomicrosystems for high-fidelity modeling of human physiology in health and disease.

    Sae Rome successfully defended her PhD dissertation, entitled “Reprogramming the pancreatic cancer stroma by targeting coagulation at the tumor microenvironment.” In this work, she developed microphysiological model of PDAC stroma with controlled coagulation system, and investigated the role of the extravascular coagulation system in tumor progression, tumor-associated fibrosis and drug resistance.
